Everyone interested in writing is invited to:

The sixth States of Independence takes place on Saturday 14 March 2015 at Clephan Building, De Montfort University, Leicester.

This year we have poetry, politics, Doctor Who, history, films, vinyl, steampunk, future fiction, zines, murder… and the announcement of the East Midlands Book Award shortlist.

The event also includes a free book fair representing dozens of publishers from the region and beyond.

About States of Independence

Seventy writers, mostly from the East Midlands, will be reading from their work at an events programme to accompany an equal number of staff from independent publishers and writing organisations staffing bookstalls and displaying their work.

Learn everything you need to know about zines, steampunk, William Burroughs, future fiction, murder in Leicester, allotments, Joe Orton, Israel and Palestine, Graham Joyce’s books, and Doctor Who. Throw in a good dollop of poetry, along with the history of the English “race” and the rebirth of vinyl, and add the announcement of the East Midlands Book Award shortlist, and you’ve got a recipe for a great day out.

All sessions are free, no tickets required. Just turn up and stay for an hour or two, or the whole day. Find more information here

States of Independence is organised and funded by Five Leaves Publications
