To kick start our autumn programmes, various WEA branches are offering talks in locations across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
NOTTINGHAM BRANCH – free talk, refreshments available
Alastair Clark presents a light-hearted, illustrative and informative talk without getting too technical or mathematical, looking at how concrete blocks (trig points) came to be built on so many of our hill tops. He’ll present an overview of the sometimes farcical competition as well as collaboration between French and British map makers in the 18th and 19th centuries. If time allows he’ll cover some of the key milestones in the development of map making by the Ordinance Survey.
Venue: Nottingham Mechanics
Date: Thursday 25th September Start time: 7.15pm for 7.30pm
