After working in the NHS, a career change brought me to the WEA about 11 years ago via a brief spell in FE. I am now course organiser for Beeston, Leicester and Nottingham branches and split my time between Nottingham and Leicester. I work with my branches and tutors to bring together the course offer you see here and in our brochures.
I occasionally teach for the WEA; my most recent courses were Life in the Workhouse, Three Industrial Model Villages and Three Enlightened Mill Owners – which included a trip to Quarry Bank Mill as featured in Channel 4’s The Mill.
My great passion is social and local history. My ‘claim to fame’ is even associated with this – I have fallen at the feet of the wonderful late Prof. Mick Ashton (of Time Team) … this was not intentional, at one of his talks; I slipped as I walked over to ask him to sign a copy of his book. Ever the gentleman, he helped me to my feet ignoring my dishevelled appearance and very rosy cheeks!
My guilty pleasure? I have 3; Books, books and more books, Twiglets and North Norfolk, especially sitting on the shingle ridge and beach below Weybourne. Time it right and the beach is yours alone.
